First Ever Chinese-Scottish Cooperation in Games Industry

Last Thursday BBC reported that the Chengdu-based Chinese mobile games company Skymoons (天象互动) has launched a studio in Edinburgh, with plans to create an initial 21 highly-skilled games development jobs. This marks a milestone of Western China creative industry in its outbound investment activities. According to the news report, the Scottish Development International (SDI) helped to facilitate this FDI project. Scottish Business and Innovation Minister Paul Wheelhouse commented:

This is a great example of international investment in Scotland's growing digital economy and a good example of Scottish Development International support. Hit or benefit: 2016 Foreign Investment Environment Assessment

It was a chilly morning in January, one of my friends in China Daily called me from her office, seeking support to arrange an interview to Chongqing-based foreign company. According to my friend, the national English newspaper was trying to find positive evidence of local government's invisible hand in supporting FDI to this region, and the bigger background was Chongqing's shining record over the past several years. The Belt and Road: Eight Voyages of the Dragon

The Belt and Road Initiative (OBOR or BRI) has become a hot topic over the past 3 years. and China-Britain Business Council (CBBC) has been very actively involved in the development of BRI since the very beginning. Early this month, the Chief Executive of China Britain Business Council, Mr. Stephen Phillips attended a China-UK Trade & Investment Forum held in Tsinghua University and delivered an excellent speech named "One Belt, One Road: The China-UK Trade and Investment Approach".

In the speech Stephen reviewed list of business opportunities by key sectors, shared the China-Britain Belt & Road Case Studies Report produced by CBBC research team and introduced several UK professional services providers serving the BRI with their legal, financial and industrial expertise. Stephen also encouraged stakeholders in both countries working together, leveraging CBBC network and members to embrace the development of BRI.

The full presentation of Mr. Stephen Phillips, "One Belt, One Road: The China-UK Trade and Investment Approach" can be downloaded from this link.

Mr. LI Qian, the Deputy Head of Chongqing Commerce Commission delivered an excellent speech on CQ's progress in attracting foreign investment over the past one year. It is remarkable that Chongqing remains No.1 in using foreign capital among tier-2 provinces and municipalities directly under the central government. Mr. Li also mentioned that Chongqing Commerce Commission (recently merged with COFTEC in Nov 2016) is planning a series of Roadshow in other major cities of China to promote Chongqing Free Trade Zone in the next couple of months.
